  • Director of Marketing & Communications

    Allendale Columbia (AC) seeks a dynamic, collaborative, creative, and goal-oriented Director of Marketing & Communications to join the AC Leadership Team, and work closely with AC’s Advancement Team and Admissions Team as well as all members of the community in various communication efforts. The ideal candidate for this position will have strategic capacity and operational acumen and should be effective at collaborating and executing with teams throughout the organization.
     
    The Director of Marketing & Communications will play a vital role in the AC community during an exciting time in the school's history. They will report to the Head of School and have the opportunity to contribute to a fun, entrepreneurial learning community that values creativity, innovative advancement, and communication ideas. The Director of Marketing & Communications guides everything from strategy to implementation for school-wide messaging and public relations. This role demands excellent strategic thinking and project management as well as considerable writing and editing.

    Key Areas of Responsibility:
    • The Director of Communications guides the strategic direction of the essence and brand of the school in partnership with the Head of School.They are responsible for maintaining a consistent brand image for the school, internally and externally and understands and embraces the school’s mission, vision, approach, and philosophy and can convey it articulately to a diverse audience
    • Designs and implements the communication strategy for the school using all platforms including (but not limited to) print, website, and social media and is responsible for seeking out public relations and communications opportunities to further the brand and key messages of the school
    • Leads the creation and development of communications materials including the school magazine, postcards, posters, brochures, view books, and print communications 
    • Consults on the AC’s brand standards, visual identity, graphic design, messaging, and integrated marketing plans
    • Manages media relations and serves as a resource to all areas of the school in editing/reviewing materials, ensuring consistent messaging and well-coordinated communication efforts
    • Collaborates with Division Heads and Leadership Team members to manage communication messaging to all internal constituent groups including (but not limited to) parents, faculty and staff, Board of Trustees, etc. 
    • Oversees planning and execution of day-to-day internal communications efforts, including email communications, presentations, announcements/postings, material updates and revisions, and proofreading
    • Partners with the Director of Advancement and Director of Enrollment and Financial Aid to support the marketing and/or communications efforts of each department for donor and student recruitment and retention 
    • Website content management experience, including content creation and maintenance
    • Develop compelling content related to the life of the school, school culture and events, our AC community members, and the interests of our prospective families, and actively participate in telling the school’s story for the purposes of achieving admissions and development targets
    Skills and Requirements:
    • Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 5-10 years working in marketing and communications
    • Experience working within a team to develop targeted messaging and compelling content to be used across multiple channels and for various audiences
    • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills
    • Proofreading and editing skills required
    • Demonstrated strength in working with teams, handling multiple projects simultaneously, and meeting deadlines with the ability to be flexible and shift priorities
    • Discretion for sensitive and confidential information
    • High comfort level with using new technology, and experience working in a website CMS (Blackbaud experience preferred but not required) and/or email systems
    • Excellent customer service skills required
    • Photo, video, and media editing proficiency preferred
    • Proficiency in Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop preferred but not required
    • Excellent project management skills required 
    Salary and Benefit Information:
    The pay range for this role is $85,000 to $95,000 per year. Benefits for full-time Allendale Columbia School employees include medical and dental insurance for the individual, TIAA/CREF retirement plan contributions, life insurance, generous support for professional development, lunch in the Dining Commons, and partial tuition remission for qualified children. All faculty members are issued a laptop.

  • Little School Teaching Assistant (Full-time)

    Allendale Columbia’s Little School is a unique environment that provides children an early childhood education guided by the Reggio-Emilia Approach. We are seeking a creative, collaborative, energetic, and hard-working individual to be an assistant teacher in our Toddler (18 months through 3 years old) classroom for a full-time position. Our Reggio-Emilia approach believes that a child's development occurs through their interest, investigation, exploration, and experimentation of the world around them. We employ a combination of curriculum and guided projects allowing children to follow their natural curiosity while being introduced to new topics and ideas which we believe leads to a love of learning.

    Responsibilities include: 

    • Assist teachers with the implementation of learning activities and materials
    • Maintain a positive and engaging learning environment with teacher guidance
    • Greet students and families while assisting them with routine procedures such as arrival activities and breakfast monitoring, bathroom breaks, mealtimes and help at dismissal
    • Assist the teachers with administrative tasks such as attendance, documentation of the day (mealtimes, play, rest, bathroom) for families
    • Arranging center tables for activities and sitting with students to assist them with tasks
    • Encourages students to develop self-help skills and reinforce these skills as directed by the classroom teachers
    • Assist in the supervision of children during playtime while inside and outside


    Education and Experience:
    • Be at least 18 years of age 
    • Have a high school degree or equivalent education 
    • Have at least 1 year of experience working with children and/or a certificate in early childhood education or currently working towards the completion of one 
    • Submit to various background checks including those completed through the New York Department of Children and Family Services

    Allendale Columbia School is a diverse, co-educational, independent school serving over 385 students in grades nursery through 12. We are seeking an experienced and dynamic educator to join a team of professionals responsible for innovative, authentic, and student-centered learning; this full-time appointment to our Lower School team begins April 30th and ends June 14th, 2024.

    Responsibilities include:
    • Co-teaching math and literacy for first and second grade classes in the Lower School
    • Working in collaboration with the Head of Lower School to ensure curriculum alignment and appropriate implementation of student-centered learning
    • Working closely with the classroom teachers to help plan multidisciplinary units that are inquiry-based
    • Other responsibilities include: supervising lunch and recess, attending faculty meetings, reporting, and maintaining consistent communication with parents about their child’s progress
    In addition to a strong background in elementary education, the ideal candidate will:
    • Have a Bachelor’s degree in Early or Elementary Education
    • Have a minimum of two years teaching experience working with lower school-level students
    • Have a proven passion for student-centered programs and project-based learning
    • Be a team player willing to try innovative and creative ways to bring excitement to the lower school program

    • Teaching a fifth grade class in the Lower School comprised of 20 students
    • Working in collaboration with the Head of Lower School to ensure curriculum alignment and appropriate implementation of student-centered learning
    • Working closely with the literacy specialist to help plan multidisciplinary units that are inquiry-based
    • Other responsibilities include: supervising lunch and recess, attending faculty meetings, reporting, and maintaining consistent communication with parents about their child’s progress
    In addition to a strong background in elementary education, the ideal candidate will:
    • Have a Bachelor’s degree in Early or Elementary Education

Staff Positions

  • 2024 AC Summer Day Camp Lead Teacher (2 spots available)

    Allendale Columbia School is seeking (2) lead teachers to join our summer community for one to four weeks (instructors have flexibility on which and how many weeks they teach) between July 8th - August 2nd. 
     
    This position will include working with children between the ages of 5 - 12 and between the hours of 9 a.m. - 3 p.m., with the opportunity of extra hours in our afternoon extended care program from 3 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.
     
    AC Day Camp consists of four week-long programs, and each week is a different theme. You will have the opportunity to plan structured lessons and projects around these themes and build a daily schedule. Some weeks we will go off campus for various field trips. AC Day camp is run by two lead teachers with two or three junior student counselors as well. 
     
    Primary Responsibilities:
    • Prepare daily plans that take into account age, theme of the week, weather etc.
    •  Communicating materials / supplies needed and submit wish list to Director of Summer Programs well in advance
    • Delegate responsibilities to junior counselors
    • Ensure the safety of all campers
    • Maintain strong relations with junior counselors, Director, and parents through clear communication 
    • Report all safety and health issues in a timely manner to the Director
    • Maintain awareness of all emergency procedures
    • Fill out accident reports on the day of the incident and submit to the Director
    Qualifications: 
    • Minimum age 18 years old
    • Current (or willing to obtain) CPR and First Aid certification
    • Experience working with children
    • Excellent at communication and punctual

  • Part-Time After School and Vacation Day Teacher

    Allendale Columbia, a diverse, co-educational, college prep independent school serving over 385 students in grades nursery through twelve, seeks an experienced, dynamic learner to join a team of professionals responsible for innovative and authentic programming! We are seeking to fill the position of Part-Time After School and Vacation Day Teacher in our Rainbow Room After School Program. Hours for this position are 2:30 – 6:00 p.m. after school days for the 2023-2024 school year and 8-hour vacation days when school is not in session.

    Rainbow Room teachers help to generate games and projects; facilitate group games; play sports and engage in other types of play with the students; as well as lead projects such as arts and crafts, photography, treasure hunts, and more. Important skills include the ability to help resolve conflicts and help students to try new things in the safety and comfort of our nourishing environment. Rainbow Room teachers instill cooperative community values, such as using manners and treating others the way one wants to be treated. Most importantly, Rainbow Room teachers try to make the after school time as fun as it can possibly be! A Bachelor's degree and experience with children are preferred.

  • Substitute Teacher

    Allendale Columbia is seeking experienced and dynamic educators to join a team of professionals responsible for innovative, authentic, and student-centered learning in various subject areas for Lower, Middle and Upper School grade levels (Nursery - Grade 12).

    Duties to Include the Following:
    • Carry out lesson plan instructions from the classroom teacher, and/or create lesson plans in absence of a prepared lesson
    • Take attendance according to school procedure each morning
    • Supplement lesson plans with your own class activities if lessons end early
    • Create and maintain a discipline and classroom control that fosters a safe and productive learning environment
    Qualifications:
    • Experience working with students
    • Experience/skills in working with collaborative relationships
    • Good knowledge of behavior management techniques with children
    • Flexibility and patience with an ever-changing schedule day to day
    • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective professional relationships with teachers, administrators, and family members
    • Ability to use good judgment
    • Be available for full-time employment that could fluctuate between the hours of 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
