A WALK IN THE PAST
The First Grade celebrated the culmination of their Walk in the Past Unit today with a guided visit to Plimoth Colony and the Wampanoag village. The class began study of the unit by visiting Ganondagan in October to learn of the local Native Peoples and thus make connections to the Wampanoags from Massachusetts. Students compared and contrasted clothing, homes, food, and games of the times for both English Settlers and Wampanoags. At the end of the day, they feasted on pompion (stewed pumpkin), sobaheg (a stew of beans, corn, and squash), cornbread and the more familiar, pumpkin pie.

^^ TITANIC: The 10th grade and the Advanced Placement European History class went to see the new exhibition of the Titanic at the Rochester Museum and Science Center. Lorraine Van Meter Cline and Eleanor Sparagana chaperoned this event. As they entered the exhibit, they received a replica boarding pass of an actual passenger. They then saw the journey of the Titanic, from the ship's construction, to life on board, to the ill-fated sinking an amazing artifact rescue efforts. At the end of the exhibit, students took their boarding pass to the memorial wall and find out if their passenger and traveling companions survived or perished.

^^ The 9th grade traveled to the Hindu Temple of Rochester with Jan Kennedy (mother of Anna and Justin), Judy Van Alstyne, Lorraine Van Meter Cline, Jackie Salitan, and Eleanor Sparagana to learn more about the Hindu religion. Upon arriving at the temple, they were greeted by Uma and Ashok Gupta (parents of 10th grader, Priya Gupta), who told them about Hinduism and took them to see the sacred area and the various temple gods. Afterward, the students ate Indian delicacies prepared by Ashok Gupta.
